So… Cotton Burner 1 was a massive success. Simon sold all the entries and everyone had massive fun!
The 2016 event was shared mostly to friends, and friends of friends, of the organising team, so to have so many up for it was fantastic for everyone involved.
Cotton Burner 2 (2017) obviously needed a t-shirt! A quick evolution of the 2016 design and here we have it.
The Cotton Burner MTB races were held over three summer evenings and are Simon Miller’s invention. They happens in Simon’s family woods just off the Camel Trail near Bodmin. Simon is always coming up with cool ideas to help get people together to have fun and racing. If you’ve read the rules for participating in the Cotton Burner then you’ll see that fun is more important than performance. Simon is working on a damn cool evolution of the event for 2025. Hopefully he pulls it off. He knows I’ll always do whatever I can from here.
Simon’s words here will give you the gist:
Played out over three weeks after work on Wednesday evenings, so you can make it a part of your mid week ride. A simple points system allows us to take your best two results out of three in order to calculate a winner at the last event. You have the option of ducking out of your least favourite event but you will forfeit a penalty point if you don’t turn up to support, marshall or bring along your skills from civilian life i.e. medical or beer brewing!
The Catch?
We wont disclose in what order the weekly events will run until the day. It could be XC or the enduro lines?! (remember back in the day, mate’s racing, when one bike suited all occasions?!).
Ethos:
I hope you are getting the point that this isn’t meant to be too serious?! It’s more about bringing mountain bikers together from all disciplines of our great sport and pastime. Whether you are a racing snake, gnarly downhiller, trail rider or social rider, this will provide you with a unique experience in an otherwise closed to the public woodland located in the foothills of the Great Grogley Downs, Camel Valley (just off the Camel Trail).
